Still Renting? You Might Be Closer to Buying Than You Think
If you’re checking Zillow on a regular basis but still signing another lease every year, you’ve probably wondered what it would take to buy a place of your own. I know it can feel like you need to have a certain amount saved, perfect credit, and your whole life sorted out before you call a Realtor.
Before you talk yourself out of it, I’d like for you to find out. You might be closer than you think, and if you’re not quite there, at least you’ll know what needs to happen next.
You can call me before you’re ready to buy
You don’t have to wait until your lease is almost up or you’ve found a house you love. Honestly, I’d rather hear from you while you still have some time to work with.
You can tell me you’re tired of renting but don’t know where to start. You can tell me you’re worried about the payment, that you haven’t saved as much as you wanted, or that you’re just trying to see whether buying is even an option.
That gives us somewhere to begin. We’ll talk about what you have in mind, when you’d like to move, and what you need help figuring out. Asking questions doesn’t mean you’re committing to buy a house next month.
Let’s get some real numbers before you rule it out
One of the first things I’ll do is help you connect with a lender so you can get a better idea of what buying would look like for you. They can go over your financing options, what you might need upfront, and what a monthly payment could be.
And that payment matters. I don’t want you buying a house and then feeling like you can’t do anything else.
You still have groceries to buy, a car to keep running, and things you enjoy doing. You’ll also need to plan for the expenses that come with owning a home, including maintenance and repairs. We need to keep all of that in mind when we talk about your price range.
Be honest with me about what feels comfortable. If the numbers are higher than you want, say so. That helps me understand what to look for, and it keeps us from spending our time on houses that would leave you stretched too thin.
You’ve been looking at houses. Let’s figure out what it would take to make one yours.
Think about where you want to spend your days
I’ve lived in Georgia my whole life, and one thing I know is that liking a house and liking where you live both matter.
Whether you’re looking in Perry, Macon, Warner Robins, or somewhere nearby, I’ll want to know a little about your routine. Where are you driving to work? Where do you spend time with friends and family? Do you want a yard, or would you rather have less to keep up with?
Maybe you’re happy with the area you’re renting in and just want a place of your own. Maybe you’re open to looking somewhere else if it means finding a home that fits you better. We can work through that together without expecting you to have a neighborhood picked out on day one.
Don’t wait until the lease renewal is sitting in your inbox
If buying has been on your mind, go ahead and check your lease. Find out when it ends, how much notice you need to give, and what your options are if the timing doesn’t line up exactly.
Having that information early gives us a better starting point. We can talk through the steps involved and give you time to prepare instead of trying to squeeze everything in at the last minute.
Even if you end up renewing, you’ll be making that decision with a better understanding of what buying could take.
If you need more time, we’ll work with that
Sometimes the answer is that you’re closer than you expected. Other times, you may need to save more, work on something with a lender, or wait until the timing makes more sense.
I’d much rather you know that now than spend another year wondering. There’s no reason to feel embarrassed about where you’re starting, and there’s no need to rush into a payment you aren’t comfortable with.
If you’re renting in Middle Georgia and thinking about your first home, send me a message. Tell me what you’re hoping for and what’s been holding you back. We’ll start there and figure out what your next step could be.
